This is a awesome news… !!
Today at 360 Flex Deepa Subramaniam announced that Adobe is working on a mobile version of Flex. They are taking into account the ramifications of creating a mobile framework for Flex 4. This does not mean that it will be released at the same time as Flex 4 but they are accounting for it in the planning as they are for Thermo which is scheduled to be released on the same timeline as the Flex 4 release.
The items that Deepa said they were going to implement were…
- Eclipse based
- ActionScript MXML / AS3 Editor
- Debugger
- Profiler
- Support for lower memory devices as well as higher memory devices
This is HUGE news for Flex developers to be able to create applications for Mobile Devices….
Next is AIR for Mobile??

Clint - didn’t you pay attention to the major caveat at the beginning of the talk! Nothing that I talked about is committed features or in anyway anything beyond investigative. Nothing related to Flex and Mobile has been committed to in any future version of Flex or FlexBuilder. I was just sharing lines of thinking. Just wanted to make sure that was clear

Come on Deepa, we all know that Adobe’s products when are still on labs are always only ‘under investigation’ and no commitment has been made… but the true is… we are used that few months later we get some alpha or beta version of it.
Basically Adobe like to make the community droll for a long time period

Joao, we aren’t even at the point of Labs yet though. Just want to reiterate how speculative Deepa’s talk was and that in truth we are VERY early in our investigation as to what the proper solution is for mobile developers. It could certainly turn out that the right answer is not Flex.

I agree with the above post! Flash is great but from a development / application perspective Flex is the better route. My company has been building web apps for a number of years now, mainly in the Java space. Flex has become the answer to what used to be our demanding interface requirements; coupled with AIR capability the platform for UI is simply awesome!
I think (but I’m no expert though) that Flex Mobile capability will provide a total slam dunk for Adobe at the UI end - what better environment than to be able to dev for web, mobile and desktop UI’s all in one technology stack.
So I hope it becomes real and we see Flex Mobile ability soon - I know we have many, many apps that would benefit from this…
